Sandy Hook Promis Receives $50,000 Donation from the Change Happens Foundation – Newtown, CT. Through a $50,000 charitable donation to Sandy Hook Promise (SHP), a leading school safety organization, the Change Happens Foundation will help train youth and adults in evidence-based Know the Signs violence prevention programs. This philanthropic partnership will bring SHP’s Know the Signs programs — Start With Hello, Say Something, and the Say Something Anonymous Reporting System — into more schools in 2019 and 2020, at no cost.
“Thanks to the support of the Change Happens Foundation, we will empower even more students to ‘Know the Signs’ to prevent school shootings and suicides, reduce bullying, and create environments of connectedness and inclusion that help minimize the potential for youth violence and self-harm,” said Nicole Hockley, co-founder and managing director of Sandy Hook Promise and mother of Dylan who was killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting.
“The work of Sandy Hook Promise is an inspiring testament that we don’t need to be helpless against senseless school shootings,” said Michael D. Troxel, executive vice president of the Change Happens Foundation. “Sandy Hook Promise’s programmatic solutions like the Say Something Anonymous Reporting System provide our nation’s families with a renewed sense of empowered safety and peace of mind.”
To date, more than 7.5 million people nationwide have been trained in Sandy Hook Promise’s proven Know the Signs programs that focus on prevention to help end the epidemic of gun violence by training youth and adults how to identify at-risk behavior and intervene to get help before a tragedy can occur. Through these no-cost programs, Sandy Hook Promise has averted multiple school shooting plots, teen suicides, and countless other acts of violence.

Safe Schools: Action Required Now
by Robert E. Marciante
Politicians and the larger community have proven to be inapt at taking any meaningful action to ensure schools and the public are safe from gun violence. The recent scourge of gun violence and public demonstrations on June 11-12, 2022, have exerted pressure on some senators to be willing to dialogue about gun safety legislation. The eventual outcome, however, will be
continued stagnation. or at best minimal legislation. Minimal ineffective legislation, to address the magnitude of the gun crisis. It is time for parents and children to demand safe schools now.
We have lost a population equivalent to an
entire state in just 50 years to gun violence.
Sit-Out
All children in U.S. schools K-12, who want to attend safe schools should stage a ‘Sit-Out’ this fall by refusing to enter their schools until parents, children, and staff are confident that schools will be safe places. Gun safety support organizations in the United States should spearhead the ‘Sit Out.’
It is time for children and parents to act in their own behalf
The ‘Sit-Out’ would require that meaningful gun safety legislation be passed. This would include an assault weapons ban, as it was before the ban was allowed to expire in 2004. And, extended magazine clips are also banned, including universal background checks, with a national red flag law, mental health support services and other sensible gun safety measures which will not infringe upon second amendment rights.
In addition, school boards must demonstrate they have taken all recommended safety precautions to insure a safe environment for children and staff.
Parents and their children should no longer allow cowards in Congress to control their destiny. From 1968 to 2018 we have lost 1,400.000 people to gun violence in the United States. That is the equivalent of the population of Hawaii. We have lost a population equivalent to an entire state in just 50 years to gun violence.
National action is required to combat the NRA, gun and munitions manufactures, and the cowards they fund in Congress.
A ‘Sit-Out’ by public and private school children including College students is essential for action. It is time for children and parents to act in their own behalf.
The other significant public action to be taken will be to vote the cowards in Congress out of office this November. The United States is the only democratic country in the world to tolerate this level of carnage to gun violence year after year. Children will be able to make up any learning loss attributed to the ‘Sit Out.’ The level of learning ability is meaningless to a dead child.
When you take guns from good law abiding citizens what you have left is empowered criminals or emboldened school shooters. There is a reason it’s schools that are targeted. It’s a gun free zone and people can not defend themselves there so it’s a target. These people don’t care if something is illegal they already do it. Shootings didn’t happen all that often if ever before 1950 . Making the gun laws an telling everyone no one can carry a gun makes it to where a criminal or murderer with a gun is free to do whatever he wants. Everyone that is law abiding becomes a target. If everyone tomorrow started to carry a gun this would never happen again. If someone tried after the first person they shot someone would pull there gun out and kill the murder. It is so sad that you think these people won’t be able to make guns if you stop selling them. It’s not that hard to do its even done for hundreds of years. Before electricity and High powered tools guns were made. Now we have 3d printers. By trying to disarm good people you are ensuring things will just get worse. Normal people that carry guns don’t just start shooting. As a woman the only thing that makes you equal to a man Is a gun. I have stopped many bad things from happening to me because I had a gun to defend myself. I’d have been kidnapped when my car broke down on the highway. A man stopped. I asked if he knew or had tool’s to change my tire he said no and just walked towards me I pulled a gun and he left I didn’t have to shoot. That’s the power of a gun. What if I didn’t? What was he going to do if not to help? Shame on all of you for trying ensure women all over the country will be victims. Laws do not effect bad evil people. They do it anyway. The only person that stops a guy with a gun is another person with a gun. Because unless he runs out of ammo who’s to stop him? In Canada there is a case where mass shooter killed several people and got away and did it several times! Why because no one had a gun.
